NSN, NIIN, CAGE & part number data API
Get Verified NSN, CAGE, and Part Number Data Into Your Systems via API
Pull unclassified Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS) data into your ERP, quoting tool, or product as structured JSON. The API comes from the team that built and manages the government’s FLIS data.
API access is included on every plan, including Free. No credit card required.
OpenFLIS is a product of Synergetics Inc. We built and manage the government’s FLIS data. Our API serves unrestricted, unclassified FLIS data. Our FLIS data isn’t scraped or a copy rebuilt from downloaded files.

What you can automate
Match Parts, Check Suppliers, and Confirm Items Inside Your Own Systems
Make verified federal logistics data part of your infrastructure with our API. Put the records your team looks up by hand into the systems that need them.
Resolve part numbers to NSNs
Send a manufacturer part number with its Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code and get back every National Item Identification Number (NIIN) it's recorded on. Match 500 part number and CAGE pairs in one go when you're working through an OEM catalog or a stack of RFQs.
Validate CAGE codes before they reach your vendor master
Check a company's CAGE status, entity type, registered address, and recorded corporate parent before adding it to your vendor list. If a CAGE has been superseded, the record may identify its replacement code.
Flag cancelled and replaced items
Check each item for a cancelled NIIN, find any replacement National Stock Number (NSN), and use the history tables to see how names, codes, unit prices, and part numbers have changed.
Plan shipments with freight and packaging data
Know how an item ships before you quote it. Pull its freight class, hazardous material codes, packing data, and pack weight and size.
How it works
Let Your Own Systems Handle Part and Supplier Data via API
Connect our API once and FLIS data becomes part of the tools you already run. Your quoting system, ERP, or AI agent does the lookups, and there’s no data pipeline to maintain.
RFQ lines matched to the parts you sell
When an RFQ lists NSNs and your catalog lists OEM part numbers, the API connects the two. Your quoting system flags the lines that match your parts, so your team goes straight to pricing.
- Match a whole catalog, or each RFQ as it arrives
- Check 500 part numbers in one go
- Lines with no exact match set aside for review
A supplier list for each NSN on a customer's list
When a customer sends a list of NSNs, your buyers see the companies registered against each item and whether each company’s CAGE code is active. They start from a shortlist to ask for pricing instead of a blank search.
- Registered companies for each item
- CAGE status, plus a replacement code when one exists
- Company name and location on record
Item and vendor checks inside your ERP
Show the item name, plain-language specs, and FLIS standard unit price next to the vendor’s CAGE status, on the screen your team already uses. That way, a mismatched item or an inactive vendor can be caught before the quote or PO goes out.
- Specs in plain language, not codes
- Cancelled items flagged, with any replacement NSN
- Vendor status and parent company
An item lookup your product or AI agent can call as a verified source of truth
Software teams and AI-agent operators can use the API as the item and supplier reference behind their own product. An agent can take an NSN from a contract, look up the item and its registered companies, and pass the result to its next step.
- Item names, part numbers, and registered companies as structured data
- Answers your team can check by hand in the Search Tool, free
- Test it on the Free plan before you build
What the API includes
50+ Tables of Item, Supplier, and Logistics Data
Send an NSN, a CAGE code, or a part number with its CAGE code, and get back the full record: what the item is, the companies registered to it, how it’s managed, packed, and shipped, and how it has changed over time.
Getting started
How to Get Started
Four steps take you from sign-up to a working integration. There’s no SDK to install.
Create your account
Sign up with your email. No credit card is required, and the API is included on the Free plan.
Generate an API key
Create a key in a few clicks on the API Keys dashboard. Make as many keys as you like, such as one for each app or environment.
Send your first request
Send a GET request to /v1/query with a table, a key value, and your key in the API-KEY header. Start with the NSN table to confirm the item.
Build it into your workflow
Pull the detail tables you need, cache reference tables that rarely change, and read the rate-limit headers to pace your calls.
In practice
How Teams Can Use the API
The API is built for teams that need FLIS data inside procurement, MRO, supply chain, and software workflows.
An RFQ lists NSNs, but the quoting system knows parts by OEM part number.
Send the catalog’s part number and CAGE pairs to the batch endpoint to find the NIINs each part is recorded on. Then pull management and freight data for the matches, so every quote starts from the item record.
A software product needs FLIS data its users can rely on.
Build on FLIS data instead of maintaining your own copy of it. Call the API from your backend to show item names, supply classes, part numbers, and registered companies inside your product. The /v1/product endpoint maps every key, table, and field, so you can plan the integration before you build it.
An analyst needs reference data they can cite in a client deliverable.
Pull the tables the analysis needs for a set of items and companies, then check any result by hand in the Search Tool, which is free and unlimited on every plan. If the job is a list of NSNs and a spreadsheet, Reports handles it: paste the list, pick the tables, and download.
About our data
FLIS data you can build on
Federal logistics data has historically been hard to work with. OpenFLIS turns current federal logistics data into clean, structured records that your team can search and securely integrate into your systems.
OpenFLIS is built to make unrestricted federal logistics data functional for the public, so that everyone can access government business opportunities.
Sourced from FLIS
Every value comes from the Federal Logistics Information System data, the government’s catalog for NSNs, CAGE codes, and item data.
Change history included
Cancelled and replacement NIINs, former company names, and past management and part number records, where available, are all part of the dataset.
No CAC/government email required
OpenFLIS covers the unrestricted FLIS data, so you don’t need a Common Access Card (CAC) or a government account to use it.
50+ FLIS tables
The dataset runs from item identification and management data to freight, packaging, and service-specific fields.

Questions
Common Questions
Is OpenFLIS owned or endorsed by the DLA or the federal government?
No. OpenFLIS is a commercial product of Synergetics Inc. No government agency owns, sponsors, or endorses OpenFLIS, and the API doesn't provide access to any government system or portal.
Which plans include the API?
Every plan, including Free. All features are on every plan, and plans differ mainly by credit volume, rate limit, and support.
Can I request custom rates?
Yes. The Enterprise plan has custom pricing and a credit allowance sized to your usage. Contact our team to talk it through, or compare plans on the pricing page.
What are the rate limits?
They vary by plan. Responses include rate-limit headers, so your code can pace itself from X-RateLimit-Remaining. If you go over, the API returns a 429 and you can retry with backoff.
What lookup keys does the API support?
Six: NIIN, FSC (Federal Supply Class), CAGE code, INC (Item Name Code), DODIC (DoD Identification Code) for ammunition, and CODE, which returns the plain-language meaning of a FLIS code. The key you choose decides which tables you can query.
Can I look up a manufacturer part number?
Yes. Send the part number and its CAGE code to /v1/query/parts. For a longer list, the batch endpoint handles 500 pairs in a single request. Part numbers aren't unique, so one pair can match more than one NIIN. If you don't have the CAGE code, search by part number in the Search Tool.
Can I search by keyword or item name?
Not through the API. Each request needs an exact identifier, such as a NIIN, a CAGE code, or a part number with its CAGE code. For keyword and item name searches, use the Search Tool, which is free and unlimited on every plan.
How current is the data?
OpenFLIS data is always current with unclassified FLIS data.
What's not in OpenFLIS?
Restricted, classified, service-unique, proprietary, NATO, and controlled unclassified information (CUI) content is excluded.
